WELCOME TO POINT OF HONOR KENNELS!

Point of Honor Kennels is a small family owned and operated kennel  in Gladwin, Michigan. Gladwin is located in the lower portion of Northern Michigan and surrounded by thousands of  acres of state owned forest. This is a prime location to raise, train and hunt some of the finest hunting dogs in the country as there is an abundance of grouse and woodcock. Here, we raise  Hungarian Wirehaired Vizslas and German Wirehaired Pointers.

German Wirehaired Pointers

After  years of careful breeding habits, this rare breed has just begun to make it's mark as it was created in the 1930's. These versatile hunting dogs were created with the color of the Vizsla, but with a thicker coat and bigger build to endure cold weather, water, and rough foliage in the woods. The Wirehaired Vizsla is a gentle, intelligent, versatile hunting dog.  Here in Michigan they are used primarily for wild game birds.  Our wirehaired vizslas work side-by-side with our German Wirehaired Pointers.

The GWP trace their origins back to 1880. They originated in Germany where hunters wanted a versatile hunting dog that would work closely with a group of hunters through varied terrain such as dense forests and open fields. They wanted a dog with a coat that would protect them when working in heavy cover or cold water. Their primary ancestor was a breed called the Pudelpointer.  The Pudelpointer itself was developed by crossing the German Pudel and the English Pointer.
